The Society of Jesus has a new leader in the person of Adolfo Nicolas. He succeeds Peter Hans Kolvenbach who has been head of the Society since 1983 till he decided to retire this year. His decision to retire is different from the rules of succession of the Society (one is to lead the Society till his last breath). I do agree with what Fr. Kolvenbach did because in this way he gets to properly pass/endorse the leadership to his successor.

The interesting thing about Fr Nicolas is that he worked in the country (1978-1984) when he was assigned to the East Asian Pastoral Institute. This reminds me of former British Prime Minister John Major (1990-1997) who was the first Post Thatcher PM. I believe Major was also an expat to the country when he was assigned to HSBC Manila.
